cfChat version 5.5

• cfChat 5.5 has Flash and HTML interfaces. The Flash interface can have multiple skins.
• Turning on an option in the Administration can enable the automatic creation of chat logs.
• Database integration is made easy. Sample code and a database are also provided.
• It is now possible to send links - just enter the full URL starting with http://...
• The security checking of the referrer can be turned off an on. if this option is turned on, users with Norton Personal Firewall are not going to be able to enter the chat because of the referrer check.
• The email address validation has been fixed.
• There are many small code improvements, which is why all the files of the older versions should be replaced with the new version files.

• The problem with IE 5.5 returning the cursor at the beginning of the input field when the option "SET FOCUS ON NEW MSG" is on has been fixed.
• German language has been added

cfChat version 5.1

Almost the whole code of the chat is rewritten, there are a lot of improvements and new features. There is no back compatibility with previous versions.

New features:

• Easy customisation of the interface - all the colours (including the background colour of the chat frame) can easily be changed in the Administration. All the messages and button labels are set as variables in separate files (/cfchat/language/english) and can be modified without going through the application files. Once the interface is set up it will not be affected by future application changes and updates.
• The architecture of the chat variables and CF structure is reconfigured and now the nicks and room names can contain any characters.
• Full multi-language support - as the whole interface is in variables in separate files it is now easy to translate the chat into another language. These settings will not be affected by application changes. Nicknames and room names can be in any language too.
• IGNORE functionality has been introduced - it is now possible to ignore users.
• SCROLL ON NEW MSG setting has been introduced- if it is turned off the chat frame will not be scrolled when a new message is displayed. There is a problem with the interpretation of the JavaScript function "scroll" by the Mac version of the Netscape 4 browser and because of this issue Mac users were not able to see any messages when using Netscape 4. Now they can turn off the SCROLL ON NEW MSG option and chat.
• The away message is now displayed as a popup text when the mouse is over a nickname.

Improvements and fixes:

• The chat refresh mechanism has been improved and now users with slow connection do not get kicked off from the chat. The chat is refreshed by a standard META tag. When the connection between the client and the server is very slow that tag seems to "forget" to work and the chat does not refresh. Now the chat refresh uses a new function that "reminds" the meta tag to work.
• All the shared access variables are fully locked ensuring proper access and update.
• The data transfer between the server and the client browser is reduced by half.
• Layout changes - there is an additional frame in the top right corner available for a logo, all the buttons are in the bottom frame.
• Many of the functions and procedures in the chat application are improved for faster performance.
